How to use Catalyst

Three steps to set up, then about two minutes a day. That's the whole thing.

Request beta access

  1. 1

    Create your account

    1 min

The beta is invite-only, so public sign-ups are off: request access and you will be sent an invite code, then sign in with email, a one-time code or Google. The calendar and the full public record are readable without an account — an account only adds your own holdings, watchlist and stars.

    Request beta access
  2. 2

    Connect your broker

    2 min

Integrations is where every connection lives, split into your feeds and the app's feeds. Trading212 takes a read-only API key (Settings → API in Trading212 — leave every trading scope off). Interactive Brokers uses a Flex Web Service token and a Flex Query id, with an on-screen checklist for both. No broker? Drop in a statement CSV or upload a screenshot of your holdings and confirm what's read off it. Broker data always takes priority over CSV or screenshot imports.

    Open Integrations
  3. 3

    Choose how you're reminded

    1 min

Turn on device push, pick how far ahead you want warnings, and switch on the daily broker auto-sync if you want holdings refreshed each morning. Install the app to your home screen if you want alerts on your phone. You can also subscribe to your events as a calendar feed: Settings gives you a private subscription link that Apple Calendar, Google Calendar or Outlook refresh on their own schedule, so your dated events sit alongside the rest of your diary.

    Open Settings

  1. 4

    Open the calendar

    1 min

Tip of the day picks the single event most worth your attention. Below it, reminders flag anything in the next 7 days touching a ticker you hold, watch or starred. Switch between list and wall views, filter by sector, star events into Favourites, and use the My calendar tab for your own dated entries.

    Open the calendar
  2. 5

    Look closer before the event

    1 min

Rate impact on any event for the company's real beat history plus an AI read on direction, confidence and magnitude — with clickable sources. Every event card also shows how the share has actually moved on past events of the same type, and, where options are quoted, the move the options market is pricing in. Check Insiders for director buying, and Event risk if too much of your portfolio lands on one day.

    Check event risk
  3. 6

    Decide, then review

    1 min

Positions shows a generic scenario signal on each security you hold — constructive, two-sided, cautious, or no view when the evidence is thin — with a risk label. It is never a personal recommendation. It reads the company and its events, not your holding, so what you do about it is your decision. Ideas surfaces new companies around upcoming catalysts. Afterwards, every outlook is graded against the real price move on the Record.

After you tradeSync your portfolio so exposure stays accurate.

  • Coverage is strongest on US listings. UK and EU tickers have thinner earnings and insider detail.
  • Dates move. The feed re-syncs every morning and updates events in place.
  • Prices are cached, not live ticks. Treat values as indicative rather than exact.
  • Ratings are a starting point. Check the Record hit rate and read the reasoning, not just the direction.

Common setup snags and the quickest way to fix them.

I think I'm looking at an old version of a page

Likely cause: Your browser, an installed home-screen copy of the app, or a corporate/ISP proxy can hold a page from an earlier release. Every page footer shows the build id it was served with — if two pages show different ids, one of them came from your cache, not from us.

Quick fix: Hard-reload the page (desktop: Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + R; iOS Safari: close the tab, then reopen). If you installed the app to your home screen, fully close and reopen it. Then compare the build id in the footer of two pages — they should match. If they still differ, send us both ids and a screenshot.

A link preview (Slack, WhatsApp, X, a preview debugger) shows the wrong image or title

Likely cause: Those services cache the preview image per URL, sometimes for weeks. They are showing you their snapshot, not the live page.

Quick fix: Open the link in a browser to see the real page. Preview images are not evidence of what is deployed — the build id in the page footer is. If a preview looks wrong after a release, tell us and we'll ask the platform to re-scrape.

How do I report what I actually saw?

Likely cause: Reports without the build id can't be separated from caching artefacts.

Quick fix: Include: the full URL, the build id from the footer, the time (with timezone), whether you were signed in, and a screenshot. If it looks like a stale page, also say whether a hard reload changed it.

I can't sign up

Likely cause: Beta access is invite-only. Public sign-ups are disabled.

Quick fix: Check your email for an invite code from an admin. If you already have one, enter it on the sign-up screen. If you lost it, ask the team to resend it.

My one-time email code never arrived

Likely cause: OTP can be delayed or filtered by spam folders.

Quick fix: Wait 60 seconds, then tap Resend. Search your inbox and spam for 'Catalyst'. If the email domain is not verified yet, use password login or contact support.

Google sign-in is not offered

Likely cause: The Google OAuth provider is not configured yet.

Quick fix: Use email/password or the one-time code option for now. Ask the team to enable Google auth in the backend.

My Trading212 portfolio isn't showing

Likely cause: API key missing, wrong scopes, or the first sync hasn't finished.

Quick fix: Open Integrations, create a read-only key in Trading212 (no trading scopes), paste it, and wait up to a minute. Trading keys are rejected for safety.

Interactive Brokers won't connect

Likely cause: The Flex token or Flex Query id is wrong, or the query isn't configured for positions.

Quick fix: In IBKR Account Management → Reports → Flex Queries, create an Activity Flex Query that includes Open Positions, then generate a Flex Web Service token. Paste the token and the query id on Integrations — the panel validates the format and shows a checklist as you go. Tokens expire, so regenerate if the status badge turns to Error.

The daily auto-sync imported zero positions

Likely cause: The broker key expired, the account is empty, or the broker API was down at the time.

Quick fix: Open Integrations and run a manual sync — the sync history shows each run and its error. If it fails again, re-paste the key or token.

Imported CSV shows the wrong tickers

Likely cause: Broker symbols like AAPL_US_EQ don't match the calendar symbols automatically.

Quick fix: After uploading, review the mapped symbols and edit any mismatches before saving. The mapping improves as the symbol database grows.

Screenshot import has low confidence values

Likely cause: Blurry image, glare, or an unusual broker layout.

Quick fix: Retake in good light, keep the full row visible, and confirm or edit each flagged field. Confirmations train future confidence scores.

No events appear for a ticker I own

Likely cause: The company is not covered yet, or the symbol isn't mapped.

Quick fix: Add the ticker to your watchlist manually. UK/EU coverage is lighter than US; read the Methodology page for coverage details.

I'm not getting push notifications

Likely cause: Browser permission blocked, or the app is not installed to the home screen.

Quick fix: In Settings → Notifications, allow browser push and install the app to your home screen. Push only works on the installed app, not the editor preview.

A stock call looks out of date

Likely cause: Live prices are cached and refreshed periodically, not every second.

Quick fix: Pull down to refresh or wait for the next sync. Portfolio calls are updated after each daily sync.

The calendar looks empty

Likely cause: The daily event feed has not completed its latest run on our side — this is our outage, not your setup. A sector filter or the Favourites tab can also hide events you expect to see.

Quick fix: Nothing is required from you: the feed re-runs every morning and the status line above the calendar shows when it last updated. If events are listed but you cannot see them, clear any sector filter and switch back to the All tab.

My subscribed calendar isn't showing new events

Likely cause: Apple, Google and Outlook refresh a subscribed calendar on their own schedule — often only every few hours — and they cache the last copy in between.

Quick fix: Force a refresh in your calendar app, or shorten its refresh interval. If nothing arrives at all, regenerate the subscription link in Settings and re-add it; the old link stops working as soon as a new one is issued.

Risk level
How uncertain the AI is about its own call. Low means the data is consistent and the direction looks clear; high means the event is noisy, conflicting, or unusually binary.
AI impact
The model's read of how strongly an event is likely to move the stock, which way, and over what horizon. It blends historical beat/miss rates, recent sentiment, and comparable past events.
Importance
How much market attention the event typically commands. Earnings and macro prints score high; minor filings or routine conferences score lower.
Portfolio exposure
The slice of your connected portfolio that is exposed to a ticker or a single event. A large position ahead of a high-impact day means higher exposure.
Stars / Favourites
Your personal watch flag. Starring an event parks it in the Favourites tab so you can track it without it needing to be in your portfolio.
My calendar
Your own dated entries — research, review, trade plan or personal — with an optional reminder. Any market event can be cloned into it, and prep/review days are auto-created for tickers you hold.
Date confirmed / estimated
On the Milestone map, confirmed means the company or regulator has published the date; estimated means we've modelled it from trial timelines or filing patterns and it can move.
Past moves
How the share actually moved on previous events of the same type, and how comparable companies in the sector moved on theirs. Green is +2.5% or better, red is -2.5% or worse, amber is the range in between.
Options-implied move
The percentage move the options market is pricing in around a dated event, read from the at-the-money straddle. Where it exists it is shown ahead of any modelled estimate, because it is a live market price rather than our view.
Base rate
For event types we do not rate, the historical distribution of moves for that kind of event — what usually happens, rather than a call on what will happen.
Index events
Additions to, deletions from and rebalances of major indices (S&P, FTSE Russell, MSCI), taken from each provider's own dated notices. Index flows can move a share independently of anything the company does.
Lock-up expiry
The date after an IPO when insiders are first free to sell, read from the prospectus. It is a dated supply event, not a prediction that anyone will sell.
Calendar subscription
A private link from Settings that publishes your events into Apple Calendar, Google Calendar or Outlook. It is read-only, refreshes on your calendar app's schedule, and can be revoked at any time by regenerating the link.
